I ~ The Dragon in the Dark

Aishira ran inside her room and tried to ignore the dragon outside. The Black Dragon followed her to the other side of the palace facing her veranda. Cold droplets of sweat were trickling down her neck. She closed her eyes praying that it would go away. She suddenly felt she was floating in the air and when she opened her eyes, she was outside the palace. Endemion was shinning beside her as if it was just an arms reach. In front of her was the Black Dragon, seeing it in its full form for the very first time. She was surprised to see the dragon and thought she would be scared. All the while she thought, it would be a fright to see the dragon as if it was a monster. True, it was all black and huge; however, it was not a monster. It looked mysterious and proud but not a monster that would kill or devour her.
“What do you want from me?” Aishira demanded.
“We need you and it seems that you also need us…” Uruha answered.
Aishira thought this was ridiculous, “I am not playing mind games with you. My life is already full of complications and here you are scaring me to death. You have made my life a living misery. I do not need this! Why can’t you just leave?”
“That is very haughty of you, if you only knew I can teach you a lesson you would never forget.” said Uruha who was taken aback by the girl’s answer.
“Nevertheless, I am the one who needs your help. We, the kingdom of Reiyu needs you…Gaea needs you”
Aishira could have fallen out of balance from the sky.She laughed, “What are you talking about? How absurd! If my brother could just hear you. He would have said the same thing. I cannot do anything right. I can’t help you.”
Uruha did not seem to hear what she said, “You are called to prot ect our soon to be king. It is been said that the Sword-Maiden will come forth at her own will to help us.”
Aishira realized this was serious, “you must be mistaken. I cannot be that person. I am telling you I am not coming.” Aishira felt a surge of feeling she could not understand. She was having mixed emotions she could not comprehend. Why do I feel like I am lying to myself?
“It’s the souls of Gaea, they are calling you…they know you are just having second thoughts?” Uruha quietly answered. “You are faltering on your own.”
Aishira panicked at what she was experiencing, “I told you I am not coming! You can find another one…I can’t take this. I already have problems of my own, much less can I deal with problems of another kingdom!”
Uruha interjected, “You are the one! It is your destiny. We cannot do anything about it. What if I promised you a new life, a better life ahead of you….in Gaea? You can get away with your arranged marriage with Galan dela!”
“You are wasting my time. That is tempting, to get away from here is one thing I would have wanted, but no. it can’t be. You cant simply buy me by promising that, I could do better than that,” said Aishira uncertain with her own words.
“I understand you are afraid, but I promise to protect and save you. Just think about it. I came here just to warn you about your destiny.”
Aishira was speechless and just nodded; she noticed that Uruha was fading away. I do not have to think about it, the answer is no.
As if Uruha read her mind, his last words to her, “no matter where you go, no matter what happens it is your destiny to save the king. You will come forth to save Gaea.”
She woke up and she was on her bed. Its just a nightmare, she said to herself. She looked outside the window and saw Endemion shining solemnly. Beside it was Gaea, all dark and near its destruction. A shivering sensation crept in her, the same thing she felt last night. She could not believe it, “it’s the end of Gaea, everybody knows that, and I have nothing to do with it.” She tried to sit on her bed, but she was too weak to move. Her body was limp; she couldn’t even raise her hand. She had to use all her strength to rise but it was tiring. Even talking was so hard to do, her voice can only let out a soft whisper.
What are you up to?
Aishira’s mind spoke and heard Uruha’s voice saying, “it’s just a test to see how strong you are…you’ll see. If you overcome this…”
You’d leave me alone…Aishira butted in.
She heard a soft chuckle, “You still don’t get it do you? I see you in a few days, for the meantime think about everything I said.” In that instant moment, Aishira could not sense Uruha’s presence anymore.
The following morning, Elias softly knocked on the door, “Ellie? Can I come in?” there was no answer so Elias let himself in, the door was not locked. Last night, he thought of his sister and what had happened. He missed her and realized it has been a long time he called her Ellie. He was the one who gave Aishira’s second name, Ellie. It was only he who calls Aishira by that name. But when they are in an argument, he uses Aishira. He opened the door and saw that Aishira was already sitting up in her bed. She was not moving as if she was sleeping as she sat. He felt a shiver of fear as he seated on her bedside.
“Are you alright? I came to say I am sorry. I was a bad brother. I guess I have forgotten that I am your brother too. I thought to delay the wedding until you are ready. It’s the only way out for now. Besides I suddenly realized I was letting someone else take the most precious thing in my life away from me. I have been your father since our parents died. You are not just a sister to me. You are my child, like my own…” he stopped. Elias wasn’t sure if Aishira was listening. He reached for Aishira’s hand and it was cold. He panicked and shook Aishira.
“its okay brother. I will do what I have to do.”, Aishira murmured.
“you don’t have to…I will think of a way. don’t mind that…what’s wrong?” Elias was really getting scared. “are you okay?” he tried to hug her but her limp body dropped on the bed. Her face was white and she looked like a zombie.
“oh my Ellie! Ellie?!”
The whole palace heard their prince screaming his sister’s name. They were all alarmed what happened. Lord Alonzo and Lady Solaicca ran to Aishira’s room and saw Elias sobbing like a child. The two crept beside Elias and heard Aishira saying repeatedly, “its okay brother. I am fine…just weak” Solaicca almost shriek at the sight of Aishira.
Aishira looked up and said, “I am not dead, just weak.” Why is it so hard to explain to these people that I am just tired? How could I explain it to all of them that this is just some kind of a battle between an imaginary dragon and me.
She looked at her grandfather, the only person she told about her nightmares. She tried to mouth the word “visions” to her grandfather.
Lord Alonzo recognized the words visions and as he suspected it was the doings of an unknown power. He took Elias to a corner and told him everything about the fortuneteller. Elias cannot believe what he heard. He looked at Aishira who was looking at him as if she was saying that their grandfather was right. Elias could not think of other explanation to it. He sent for magical healers but none of them knew what it is. Aishira got better everyday and never failed to insist that none of the healers could heal her. She refused to say any details and just made an excuse that she could not speak.
“It’s neither a curse brother, nor a spell, believe me. I’d prove the dragon that he can’t convince me by doing this.” Aishira smiled awkwardly. “I am not afraid of the dragon. You don’t have to do anything. Just leave it. I’m getting better now, am I not?”
“Oh Ellie! I do not know what I would do if I lose you! it was so foolish to fight about getting married with some stranger. I am being punished. I didn’t know that somebody had done this to you. Are you sure you cannot remember where the dragon came from?” Elias said.
“No one is punishing you. I’m pretty sure I do not remember”, Aishira lied. This is my fight, this is different. My brother cannot do anything about this.
Solaicca came in bringing fresh flowers, “everybody is wondering how you are. There are rumors that she is seriously ill and whether the wedding is called off or not.”
Elias scowled, “why would I think about weddings at this time?” Solaicca’s face dropped.
“Galandela can wait!” Solaicca’s expression change to relief.
Aishira saw this, “Galandela will have their wedding soon enough. And besides its not my wedding they are talking about...yours”
Elias’ jaw dropped, “oh Laicca darling! I am so sorry! I was just so worried about Ellie…why has it ever crossed your mind that…”
“Of course I know,” Solaicca felt embarrassed. “I know how much you care for Ellie. And so do i. I understand, you have nothing to worry about. I’ll go ahead and finish some work.”
Elias was dumbfounded, “ah what a fool! She’s not jealous of you isn’t she?”
“No. she understands. But you know, you’ve been here with me for almost a week now. Never leaving my side. She misses you that’s all. So go to her I am fine”, Aishira explained.
“I guess. I have neglected her for quite sometime now. but I just wanted to be here. I cannot explain it. I have a feeling that will be parted….” His words faltered.
Aishira couldn’t help but feel the same way but she couldn’t tell it to her brother. “silly, because you and I are getting married soon, that’s why.”
Elias wasn’t sure of that, “I guess.”
“it is,” she wasn’t sure with her answer either.
Elias hugged her tightly and kissed her on the forehead, “I love you Ellie. More than you can ever imagine,”
Aishira couldn’t help a tear fall from her cheek. Why does it feel as if this is the last? She hugged him back and kissed his chin like she always did, “I love you too brother.”
The engagement party of Elias and Solaicca came. Aishira was better now as her color came back and she was strong enough to stand now. She faced the mirror and Uruha appeared and said, “I admire your strength”
“Are you going to leave me now? Do you really have to hurt people just to get what you want?” Aishira questioned.
“Not quite. I wont do anything to harm you or any of your loved one. its just you. you were struggling to your own personal beliefs. You knew you can’t get away from your destiny. Who says I have given up. You just proved to me how strong your will is. Its one more reason to choose you.” Uruha answered in fact.
“You tricked me! You’d never give up, do you?” Aishira asked exasperatedly.
“No. We didn’t choose you. it was written in the stars. It is your fate, your destiny. I came to inform you about your destiny. You will come forth at your own will. Now, don’t go blaming me for anything bad that will happen. They are bound to happen,” Uruha warned her.
“What? What’s going to happen? Tell me!” Aishira suddenly was alarmed at what Uruha said.
“I am not to tell you what is in the future. It will happen. Just a warning. Keep your eyes open. I am always at your side; remember that, I am not your enemy. Farewell. We will be waiting for you…”
Little do the people of Felea know that the engagement ball was a trap amidst the festivities. Galandela’s ulterior motive was to massacre the royal family, with the help of General Ferreira. They skinned the Prime Minister Alonzo and pulled its silver hair. Galandela’s king raped the Crowned Princess Solaicca and murdered her in front of the prince Elias and princess Aishira. Ferreira tried to save her daughter and protested that hurting her daughter was not part of the plan. The barbaric Galandelans answered him with an axe cutting off his head. Elias went mad and they made him go crazy, when they tried to break the bones of Aishira. Aishira tried to break free, she tried to fly but they clipped her wings. A struggling Aishira was the last thing prince Elias saw of his sister. One soldier took a dagger and pierced the prince eyes. It was an excruciating pain. Tears flowed from his eyes, they were red and darkness filled his eyes. The next thing he knew he was on his knees crying in pain and heard a loud scream from his dear sister…a chopping sound then a splash from the ocean. Someone aproached Elias and took his hand and place something round. Their laughter even grew louder,
“Here’s your old man. Thought you might want some keepsake.”
Elias felt his heart was about to burst, he was holding his grandfather’s head.
sorry about that. next time, i'll make it shorter.
